It's A Hard Life Being A Door

Internal timber doors lead a hard life, honest! Putting up with everyday use, which can mean kicks, bumps, knocks, shoe scuffs, greasy fingers and even dirty pets isn't easy you know. This happens 7 days a week, 365 days a year, and even over a period of time your interior doors are still still expected to look as good as the day that you bought them. If you're parting with your hard-earned cash on a new set of internal doors, we're certain you will want to do everything you can to ensure your beautiful new doors are fully protected, right from the day you receive them.

If you've been browsing our website already, we're sure that you will be amazed at the number of doors on offer. Choosing the style, sizes, material and construction can be mind-bending enough, but once you have found the right one, you're faced with the next big dilemma, "does it come fully finished or am I going to have to get it finished myself?".

Let us Take Care Of The Hassle of Pre-Finishing

Leader Doors can offer a highly professional and quality factory spray finish on any of our unfinished timber doors. Our full spray finishing service allows us to offer the biggest selection of doors available anywhere online in the UK - this ensures a smooth, clean finish on all sides with no sanding, painting or additional work required. When finishing your door at home, it can be extremely difficult to ensure that your door is as smooth or as long-lasting as a factory quality finish, especially on all of the faces and sides. Our finishing service is a fantastic way to ensure you get the finish you desire, without the hassle or mess that home finishing can bring.

Leader Doors work in partnership with a UK market leader in timber finishing to ensure we can offer you the best value for your money, combined with a superior quality end-product. So if you are looking for a hassle free job, look no further than our affordable spray finishing service.

Unfinished and Fully Finished - What's the difference?

Some suppliers provide their popular door styles in both unfinished (meaning it needs to be pre-finished before it can be fitted) and fully finished (ready to hang) options. Both options have their own pros and cons. The main reason for choosing fully finished doors is to ensure that they have a uniform finish throughout as these doors are factory finished at the point of manufacture, however, this can push up the cost, as the fully finished doors often come at a premium price from the supplier.

So what happens when the supplier doesn't offer a fully finished version of the door you are looking to purchase? Thankfully, you can rely on Leader Doors to help you out with this one.

How Do I Purchase Finishing Of A Door?

To let us take care of the finishing of your new doors, simply click here and add the finishing product in the required number of doors to your basket. Each finishing item applies to one door, so if you're buying a number of doors then make sure to add the correct amount to the basket.

Once your order is complete, we'll arrange for the doors to be sent away for pre-finishing locally and will track them every step of the way. Our finishing service usually takes no more than 7-10 working days, which can sometimes be slightly extended depending on the actual product lead time as well. For an accurate delivery estimate, please speak to our product experts.

Once the doors are finished, we'll give you a call to book in a delivery which will be shaped around a time which suits you. Each door is fully re-packaged with care, ensuring a safe, problem free journey to your home.

Can I finish my doors myself?

Of course you can! All of our popular doors come in un-finished versions, which allows you to purchase them and apply your own finish when they arrive home. This allows you to choose a particular shade or style of finishing, depending on your own tastes, giving you a truly unique product.

There are some important finishing guidelines which must be adhered to when finishing your doors yourself. If you follow these guidelines, then you will help to ensure a longer life for your door and better protection against the elements;

  • All un-finished timber doors are required to be fully finished before fitting takes place.
  • Un-finished timber doors will need to be lightly sanded prior to finishing.
  • All surfaces should be fully finished, including the edges of the door. Adequately sealing the end grain on the top & bottom of the doors, as well as any lock, latch and hinge cut-outs.
  • Take care to adequately protect your glass when finishing doors. Utilising masking tape may be necessary to properly protect the glass, including on doors which come with 'Paint 'N' Peel' protection - a little extra protection doesn't hurt!
  • If all surfaces are not adequatly treated your door will be more susceptible to shrinking and swelling which may cause splits in the veneer, due to humidity and temperature changes.
  • White moulded & white primed doors only need a top coat of paint after fitting.
  • Even fully finished doors which come finished from us will require some finishing - usually in the bare timber areas caused by trimming and hardware/lock cut-outs.
  • We recommend you also consult the manufacturers instructions slip which will be provided with your doors for specific finishing guidelines from each supplier.

If you are unsure, please contact us before any work is carried out on the door, to ensure we can advise you how to proceed correctly.
