Pocket doors are a relatively new introduction into the internal door market, but they're becoming ever more popular as time goes by. Pocket doors are a great solution for open plan spaces and also small rooms, but the key to getting a pocket door right is all about what’s going on behind the plasterboard. Traditionally most people opt for standard hinged swinging doors because it's the norm, but who says you have to go with the crowd? Hinged doors are sensible choices, but whether you want something more extravagant, or are simply looking to save space where it's at a premium you just need to ask; Would your project benefit from pocket doors?
If the answer is yes, you've come to the right place!
JB KIND's single pocket door system is supplied already assembled to simplify fitting. Usually, a pocket door is chosen thanks to the space saving ability it offers. Rooms with tight spaces, where it's difficult to open a hinged door, such as en suite bathrooms or walk-in-wardrobes make the perfect application for a pocket door system. That's not always the case though, as a pocket door system often makes a great addition to open plan rooms where they can create a flowing layout from room to room when opened.
In order to work on a pocket door system, you will need to plan ahead and build an encasing wall wide enough to house the door. Generally standard doors are just 35mm thick, so a 100mm wide wall will usually wrap itself around a pocket door comfortably. If your door is slightly thicker, then you may need to opt for a pocket door system that is suitable for 125mm thickness, like the pocket door systems we have on offer from Eclisse, who provide for both. Most pocket door systems will be housed in steel-frame kits, which replace the regular studwork.
Most pocket doors run with an upper track only, however, select options do provide for a bottom track as well to increase stability. Please speak to us if you're unsure before purchasing and we can provide a wide range of advice on pocket doors.
There are several options to consider when purchasing a pocket door, all of which we can provide expert advice on, whether you go for a more contemporary flush architrave-free kit from Eclisse in their Syntesis collection (perfect for contemporary homes), or a more traditional option from LPD. We're even able to supply systems to suit pocket fire doors and pocket glazed doors also.
